GPI Chief Production Staff
This page provides a quick run-down on Gothic Pictures International's current chief production staff members. We are still adding talent to our lineup, so feel free to check back later, now and again, to keep well informed on the film-makers who become members of the GPI team.
Chief of Directorial Staff, Screenwriter & Film Editor: Ray Gibraltar
Our chief director,
Ray Gibraltar, came onboard with GPI in March 2012. We are
certainly proud to have him as an addition to our staff.
Ray was born in Iloilo (town and province) in the Philippines in 1976. He began his education by attending seminary at St. Vincent's in Iloilo and then studied philosophy at the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod.
However, the great love of his early life was the stage. He has acted in and directed numerous theater productions at schools, community theaters and other such groups since his teens. This experience has given him a great insight into working with actors in the cinema. Ray is also an accomplished screenwriter, cinematographer and film editor.
His filmography lists the following feature films and documentaries:
- When Timawa Meets Delgado (2007) is a dark comedic story that revolves around the unconventional lives Jun Delgado and Ruben Timawa, and their only way to reach their American dreams: to be nurses (director, writer and editor).
- Joy to the World, ang Prosesyon (2008), which translates as A Foot Parade is a Joy to the World, unfolds a documentary canvas of 13 short stories woven together into an unlikely contemplation of Filipinos traversing humankind's stages of existence: birth, life, death and resurrection (director, cinematographer and editor).
- Syokoy (2009) documents a destructive and widespread oil spill in the Philippines (director, cinematographer and editor).
- Wanted: Border (2009) centers around a woman who descends into cannibalism and religious zealotry as she seeks to find redemption from a dark and twisted past (director and writer).
- Brod (2010) portrays a gay romance in college amid fraternity hazing and homophobia, which causes hardship and tragedy (director and editor; written by Archie Del Mundo).
Currently, Ray is working on an individual feature film project titled Aksyon Star (Action Star), about a down-and-out "has-been" in the Philippine cinema who is struggling to make a comeback. The project is currently in development and scheduled to begin shooting sometime in the summer of 2012.
Ray is married with a young son, also named Ray, and lives in the greater Manila area. He is slated to direct GPI's next major feature film project titled The Beast. Production for this film is planned to start in late 2012 or early 2013.
Chief of Production Design: Alf Thaddeus Alacapa
In
the field of film production design, GPI is proud to announce that
Alf Thaddeus Alacapa is our chief of production design. He came on
board with us during the spring of 2012.
His hometown is Bacolod (town and province) in the Philippines.
Alf has been working in this field for the past ten years. He also does art directions and special effects, specializing in the field of prosthetics.
His film credits as production designer include:
- Raket ni nanay (2006)
- Wanted: Border (2009): Ray Defante Gibraltar, director
- Tsardyer (2010)
- Brod (2010): Ray Defante Gibraltar, director
In addition, he was the Prosthetics Director (special effects) for GPI's Darkest Night.
We are happy to have Alf on board as a member of the GPI team. He
is slated to be the production designer for GPI's next major feature
film project The Beast.
Executive Producer & Screenwriter: Russ Williams
Russ
Williams has been a career writer for 30 years. He began film-making, including screenwriting and producing, in 1995.
He has lived in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia (near Kuala Lumpur) for the past three years after residing in the Los Angeles area for the previous 20 years. He worked in the computer industry for over a decade before slowly transitioning into film-making.
Russ' college credits include a bachelor's degree in education from Vanderbilt University in his hometown Nashville, TN, in the U.S. He received a master's degree in communication, journalism and creative writing from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL (near Chicago).
He has had one screenplay,
The Last Year
(2002), produced and has been working steadily in
film-making since then. He was also an uncredited
co-producer for
The Last Year
. Living in Asia has given him a new
perspective on eastern thought and culture, as well as how
it relates to the west.
His hobbies include music, geology, astronomy, literature, still photography, hiking, computers, history and swimming. In his spare time, he composes music, sings in choral groups, photographs landscapes and studies local geology.
Williams has written 15 screenplays, including Darkest Night, as well as five novels. He also writes stage plays, short stories and poetry.
Having published one novel (in hardcopy and e-book formats), he also publishes his poetry on his personal website. For more information about him, feel free to visit this site.
Assistant to the Executive Producer & Cinematographer: Michael Tay
GPI
wishes to welcome Michael Tay to our team as an assistant to the
executive producer, as of April 2012. His duties will include office
management, bookkeeping and administrative assistant tasks. He is
also a still and video photographer.
He grew up in the town of Muar in Johor, Malaysia. Studying business, he graduated from St. Andrew's School in Muar.
Michael worked with GPI in April and May 2011 as an assistant cinematographer and an administrative assistant, during the shooting of our latest film, Darkest Night. We were glad to have his assistance then and even happier to have him on board now as a full-time office manager.
Michael will continue to assist us during film shoots, as conditions warrant. He shot much of the footage for our behind-the-scenes documentary, The Demons Behind Darkest Night.
